The Annual Fund gift provides essential support for the Museum’s day-to-day operations. Thanks to your donation, NSU Art Museum can present world-class interdisciplinary and innovative exhibitions, develop educational programs and resources, ensure its permanent collection accessibility, and artist support. Exhibition Fund
NSU Art Museum regularly receives national attention for its world-class international exhibitions. The support of generous donors allows the museum to continue to create insightful and groundbreaking exhibitions, as well as related educational programming and special events.
The Museum’s international exhibition program, which aims to challenge viewers’ perceptions of the world around them, is overseen by its visionary Director and Chief Curator Bonnie Clearwater, who joined the Museum in 2013. NSU Art Museum’s celebrated permanent collection contains more than 7,500 works and is known for its significant collection of Latin American, contemporary art with an emphasis on women, Black and Latinx artists, and African art that spans the 19th to the 21st century. Among its highlights is the country’s largest collection of 19th and early 20th century paintings and drawings by the American realist William Glackens, the most extensive holding in the U.S. of works by post-World War II, avant-garde CoBrA artists (acronym for Copenhagen, Brussels and Amsterdam) who resisted German occupation during World War II and emerged in the war’s wake.
The Museum draws from its collection for exhibitions exploring issues that resonate with the South Florida community and contribute to productive discussions that address identity, inequalities, and injustices, encourage empathy and compassion, and inspire wonder.
Two scholarly research centers complement the collections: The Dr. Stanley and Pearl Goodman Latin American Art Study Center and the William J. Glackens Study Center. The steadfast support of our generous donors allows NSU Art Museum to continue to create innovative and diverse exhibitions, as well as related educational programs.
Education Fund
Keeping the Museum an affordable and accessible resource for individuals and families is our priority. NSU Art Museum breaks down boundaries in making art accessible to all, and this is only possible thanks to your patronage and constant support. Museum on the Moveis an innovative education program that invites Broward County students grades k-12 to experience NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale. The program enhances learning and increases engagement with the arts by involving students in stimulating tours of the Museum’s exhibitions and collections, and hands-on art activities based on principles of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) and 21st Century learning skills. We proudly serve annually more than 3,500 students, 80% from Title 1 schools. Click HERE for more information.
Art Acquisition fund
From its beginning in 1958, NSU Art Museum has acquired a number of works through gifts from generous donors, from exhibiting artists and through purchases. The collection continues to grow through the efforts and generosity of our donors and patrons.
All acquisitions shall be reviewed and approved by the Collections Committee upon the recommendation of the Director and Chief Curator, and curatorial staff.
The Art Acquisition Fund fosters the mission of NSU Art Museum to provide exceptional opportunities to access, learn from and be inspired by the highest level of visual artistic expression throughout time and from around the world, and to engage a wide audience by offering diverse and innovative exhibitions, dynamic education, and public programs, and by developing an exceptional collection, and fostering original research and intellectual inquiry.

Gifts of Art
By entrusting a work of art to NSU Art Museum, you ensure that it will be cared for professionally, exhibited, and appreciated by generations of visitors.
NSU Art Museum’s permanent collection contains more than 7,500 works, including the most celebrated and largest holdings in America by the post-war, avant-garde European Cobra artists, and the largest collection anywhere of works and archival materials by American painter William J. Glackens and his circle, including John Sloan, George Bellows, Maurice Prendergast, and Glackens’ wife Edith Dimock.
The museum recently received a significant promised gift of 100 works from the highly regarded contemporary art collection of David Horvitz and Francie Bishop Good. With an emphasis on the work of multi-cultural and women artists, this collection provides a comprehensive overview of contemporary art and includes numerous pivotal works in the artists’ careers. Among the artists represented are: Cecily Brown, Tracey Emin, Teresita Fernández, Nan Goldin, Barbara Kruger, Ana Mendieta, Catherine Opie, Cindy Sherman, Amy Sillman, Lorna Simpson, Kiki Smith, Mickalene Thomas, and Kara Walker.
The museum’s extensive collection of Latin American and Cuban modern and contemporary art includes the important collection of works promised to the museum by Stanley and Pearl Goodman, including Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, Rufino Tamayo, Wilfredo Lam, Leonora Carrington, José Clemente Orozco, Joaquin Torres-Garcia, among others.
Key mid-twentieth century New York School artists are represented by the work of, among others, Philip Guston, Lee Krasner, Joan Mitchell, and Frank Stella. Its holdings also include a significant collection of African and Oceanic Tribal Arts and art of the Americas.
