NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale is proud to announce the opening of Shared Dreams, a major exhibition celebrating the extraordinary recent gift of 88 major works of 20th-century Latin American art from renowned collectors Stanley and Pearl Goodman. This transformative gift, assembled over four decades by the Fort Lauderdale-based couple, reflects a deep commitment to preserving and promoting Latin American artistic heritage. Shared Dreams offers a rare opportunity to experience a dynamic range of works that reflects the richness of Latin American cultural and visual traditions.

Art Vocabulary
- Surrealism -This was a super cool art and cultural movement that started in the early 1920s, right after World War I. Imagine artists creating strange, dream-like scenes that didn’t always make sense!
- Avant-garde – is a French word. It means “front guard” or “advance guard.” This term is used for people or artworks that are very new and experimental.
- Minotaur – is a monster from Greek mythology that has the body of a man and the head of a bull.
- Mythological – having to do with or appearing in a myth. Many constellations have mythical names.
- Symbolism – is when a thing, like an object, person, or color, represents an abstract idea or something more than its literal meaning.

Art Activity
Instructions
Step 1
Your materials are: plastic mask, tempera sticks, and stickers.
Step 2
First, use the tempera sticks to paint all over your mask
Step 3
Then, use regular stickers to bring your mask to life and foam stickers to give your mask texture
Step 4
Here is your finished surrealist mask frame. inspired by the artist Remedios Varo on view in Shared Dreams: Celebrating the recent gift of the Stanley and Pearl Goodman Latin American Art Collection.
